Master of Philosophy Degree
The MPhil degree shall be awarded on the basis of a thesis grounded on innovative work, demonstrating evidence of mastery in the application of advanced research techniques to the solution of a research problem, together with the successful completion of all applicable coursework requirements and oral defence of the thesis.
Time Frame for MPhil Programme
The MPhil degree requires a minimum of three (3) courses, equivalent to 12 credits to complement the research. Note that students may take additional recommended courses per the advice of the Advisory Committee, which are compulsory, but only audited. The MPhil degree requires a minimum study period of two (2) years to accomplish and up to a maximum of three (3) years when undertaken full-time. It requires a minimum of three (3) years and a maximum of five (5) years if undertaken part-time.
A student initially registered for an MPhil degree may be upgraded to a PhD degree provided all progression requirements are met and supported by the supervisor. Details for such an upgrade are provided in the Examination Procedures for MPhil Theses and PhD Dissertations document.
Entry Requirements for MPhil Programme
Entry to the master's programmes will normally require the following qualifications and/or experience:
- Persons holding a Bachelor’s degree from an approved UTT with a B+ average or Upper Second Class honours or an equivalent GPA.
- Persons holding a Bachelor’s degree with a lower than B+ average but with compensating experience and/or qualifications.
- Persons with other professional qualifications and experience deemed suitable by the relevant Programme Teaching and Learning Committee.
